Day 023 - Photo History 4 - Man Ray, Les Larmes (Tears) 1930-32

While in the United States photographers were still enamored with Pictorialism (see last Monday), European artists were embracing experimentation and the modernist aesthetic.

Man Ray was a prolific painter, photographer, sculptor and designer often creating surrealist inspired conceptual works. Unlike American photographers who saw commercial work as the bane to the artists creativity, Man Ray was most prolific, flawlessly combining his personal art with fashion and advertising.
