Day 016 - Photo History 3 - Edward Steichen 1903
Edward Steichen was a painter, photographer and curator. His early photographs assume the style of the Pictorialists, known for taking on a painterly quality with soft focus and brush applied print emulsions.
He was published extensively in Alfred Stieglitz's Camera Work magazine and after serving as commander of a photography unit in the military after World War I, he became the first Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art where he produced one of the most successful photographic exhibitions of all time, The Family of Man, in 1955.
