Day 009 - Photo History 2 - Duchenne de Boulogne c.1862
...or trying to electrically stimulate beard growth...

Duchenne was a French Neurologist studying how the muscles produce facial expressions, believed to be linked to the soul of man. With the help of Adrien Tournachon, brother of noted artist and photographer Felix Nadar, Duchenne produced this stark body of photographs documenting his "Electro-Physiological Analysis of the Expression of the Passions, Applicable to the Practice of the Plastic Arts." Science, with an artistic flair.

"Only photography, as truthful as a mirror, could attain such desirable perfection."
