I ask not for the great, the remote, the romantic; what is doing in Italy or Arabia; what is Greek art, or Provencal minstrelsy; I embrace the common, I explore and sit at the feet of the familiar, the low. Give me insight into to-day, and you may have the antique and future worlds. What would we really know the meaning of? The meal in the firkin; the milk in the pan; the ballad in the street; the news of the boat; the glance of the eye; the form and the gait of the body; — show me the ultimate reason of these matters; show me the sublime presence of the highest spiritual cause lurking, as always it does lurk, in these suburbs and extremities of nature; let me see every trifle bristling with the polarity that ranges it instantly on an eternal law; and the shop, the plough, and the leger, referred to the like cause by which light undulates and poets sing; — and the world lies no longer a dull miscellany and lumber-room, but has form and order; there is no trifle; there is no puzzle; but one design unites and animates the farthest pinnacle and the lowest trench.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The American Scholar" (1837)

Be careful on that tree. By the way, your hair reminds me Tim Burton!

Scrivener says:
You're not kidding, @flainez. It's been raining, slowly but steadily, all day and that limb was wet. I did almost fall on my ass as I climbed down.

Scrivener says:
You know, I didn't really have a good sense of what Tim Burton looks like. So I googled "tim burton photos" and after what I saw, I gotta say that @flainez is totally right. Clame.

Actually, I've always thought that you look like a taller John Gruber of Daring Fireball fame. Except, you know, far far less obnoxious.

Anyone ever told you that you look a bit like Wayne Coyne? I would have also suggested Tim Burton. Tree climbing builds strong beards

Tree climbing in the rain?? That, sir, is dangerous. But I suppose the mystical powers of the beard will protect you from harm.

Thanks @Beard Goggles.

@gfmorris, I don't know who that is and didn't find a picture of him after a really quick search. But I'll take your word for it.

Thanks @ace and @grower&shower

@mcsauce they really are very comfortable, but the problem is they're really wearing out. Those boots are older than my kids, at least 10 years old now. I'm gonna have to break down and buy another pair soon.

@elldub You tell DW he can talk to me if he's got a problem with it.

Scrivener says:
@folliclejuju I don't think it was painted. I think it's just some lichen growing on the branches. And it was raining, but not very hard, so some areas on the undersides of the branches were still dry but with rivulets of water running down them.

@wondermade I guess I need to get my solo music career going then.

@ThatGuy I was just reading a whole comment thread debating whether the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are really ninjas or samurai. Some people seem to think it hinges on whether mutant turtles can be all that stealthy. So I wonder whether I could be a ninja wearing those boots.

@Poe Thanks. I'm a fan of Emerson's, but it's not uncommon to have to read it a few times.

Climbing trees is fun. It's one of those things I just stopped doing. Once I had kids, I've gotten up in a few. It's also not as easy as I remember it being.
