My freshman year of college, I was the opening morning DJ on Saturdays & Sundays at the local AM radio station. I didn't have a car, and the station was a few miles from my dorm. In the winter, I dressed up snugger than the mummy, including a knitted scarf wrapped several times around my face.
By the time I got to the station, my breath had solidified, freezing my scarf to my beard. It'd take a good half hour to thaw, so I walked around the station with a scarf literally hanging from my face while I was powering the transmitter and everything else on for the day.
As the first major inland city in the country, it is thought of as the first purely American city, lacking the heavy European influence that was present on the east coast.
