I haven't read Blankets but I've seen it on the shelf at the library. It looks interesting. I'll pick it up when I'm done with The New Frontier and Vol1 of The Spirit.
Win7 is fine. Pretty much like Vista, except MUCH MUCH better out of the box.. Vista had alot of stupid stuff set up as defaults. Win7 can still benefit from some tweaking though if you want to get the most from it. go to blackviper website to learn how to set it up best for you.
as far as crashes, I have used Windows forever and only see crashes if some terrible peripheral is used with terrible drivers. Our whole office ran on win2000 and winXP for years with no crashes. If you keep getting crashes, it might be bad memory, memory timing set wrong in bios if you try overclocking, or 3rd party driver conflict (not the fault of MS).
CLAME for a MUCH better operating system, legally free to download and redistribute, and actually fun to use.
Don't worry, it won't treat you like a criminal out the gate, it won't require you to reboot your computer every time you move your mouse and it won't crash more often than you change your underpants.
i installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro using BootCamp and it's alright. A little too colorful and gradient happy for my tastes. I only use it for web testing.
i've been running the Win 7 release client ever since it came out and i've been loving it (especially for free). i've gotta nuke this for the legit version in the next few months, not looking forward to any weird kinks that are likely to arise.
would love to get an imac, but in the meantime i don't really care. it's a computer, not a lifestyle.
Miquelito, I spent $500 on my mac mini, it's not as expensive as it once was. Plus it only uses 120 watts vs the 500+ my PC was using. Do what you like though. Win 7 has been giving my brother fits, freezes and crashes multiple times a day, but I have it running in a virtual machine on my mac and haven't had any problems. I'll pick up a copy from the MS store just to have around though.
How about you just decide what YOU want, and go with that. Mac OS isn't any better than Windows, and is in fact mush WORSE for many things. I run Leopard on a Mini at home and try to jump over to it as little as possible.
I fully realize that this debate is over a month old, but I'm curious your outcome. I ran 7 from Beta and am still running it now. No crashes. No freezes. Only driver I lacked was for my printer (which WAS pretty frustrating... but not MS's fault). Anyhow, just curious...
