He could feel it here, somewhere on this bookshelf. A relic of times lost to him, now so close to being returned. Scouring each shelf, he found no trace of it. Yet, he felt it's power here, and like an addict he continued his desperate pursuit of it.

After staring into the rows of books for what seemed like hours turned days in this poor victim's room, he noticed something that didn't belong. Nestled on the third row, flanked on one side by a collection of bibles, and on the other by a wide array of historical treatises, there was a book that didn't belong.

He stared it down for minutes. Sister Carrie. The polished wood bookbinding was a dead giveaway, but in his extended haste, he hadn't noticed such trivial details.

In a moment, he would reach out and take it. He knew what he would find inside. A breathe of air entered his lungs.

A relic of his heart awaited.

Well, damn the zoom! Not much I can see! But I do see the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the New American Bible, both of which are found on my shelves...
