Now...the top 5!

5: Derek Webb-Mockingbird

Derek once said that he listened to a whole lot of The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour while making this record, and it shows, from the hard pan of the instruments, to the instruments themselves. Favorite songs off this one: "A New Law", "I Hate Everything(But You)", and "Rich Young Ruler".

4. Andrew Osenga-Photographs

This is Andrew's first solo record after the label-forced breakup of his band, The Normals, and is a solid example of why some A&R folks are...mentally challenged, shall we say. Favorites on this one: (and it's really hard for me not to put down every song on this album.) "Kankakee", "The Man Of The House", and "When Will I Run".

3. Wilco-Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

I mentioned my meandering into Wilco, and part of that meandering is due to my not getting this record right away. However, I was determined to figure them out, so I asked a friend about them. He told me(and seeing as he occupies spots 13, 9 and 5 on this list, I trusted his judgement) to listen to YHF once all the way through, then watch /i'm trying to break your heart/ all the way through, then listen to YHF again. It worked. Favorites from this one: "Ashes Of American Flags", "Jesus, Etc.", and "War On War".

2: The Normals-A Place Where You Belong

This record got me through my senior year of high school. If you don't own this...you need to. Favorites from this one: "Romeo On The Radio", "Innocence", and "Brittle Bone".

1. Bruce Springsteen-Born To Run

From start to finish, this is completely amazing. And it also has the best saxophone solo not played by someone named Coltrane ever. Favorites: Start the album, don't stop it till it's done.

Two of yours (Springsteen, Wilco) are probably in my all-time top 10 records too. Great, great stuff.

Also, if @gfmorris doesn't dig you already, he will now. He's all buddy-buddy with Andy O and DW.

While I love most of your albums on this list you've been doing...I just can't get into the Boss. I don't know why. Just doesn't move me.

@pip in the interest of full disclosure, i've known @gfmorris for about 5-7 years now. Also, i had the crazy opportunity to open for Osenga, Peterson, and Gullahorn in Knoxville this past October.

Cool stuff. I've always enjoyed listening to records despite the fact that I have never owned a player.

Yeah, @pip, I've got some of my peeps in the W'rino this year. @knoxandy, @thecap, and @michaelterry. I've known Andy since he was a wee pup and unable to grow a beard. ;)

[Dude, it's crazy to think that I've known you guys that long.]

Oh shit. We're best friends now. YOu should probably know that. Born to Runis genius. If you haven't already, pick up the box set reissue. it comes witha making of dvd, and a live show from the seventies when he was at his most dramatic as a performer. Saw him two years ago...AMAZING.
