Sorry for the bad quality of this shot -- it has a story behind it.

After I set up this shot and reviewed the finished product, I realized I had left the flash on, which the signs reflected and sadly drowned out all surrounding light. After realizing my error, I turned the flash off and started to set up my shot again.

To my surprise, as I was fiddling around with my camera, the glow of headlights began to slowly creep up behind me. Having a feeling this couldn't be good, I decided to turn around with my fears being answered -- a squad car. In a matter of minutes, I found myself trying to explain my suspicious behavior to a police officer, being questioned repeatedly on what I was actually doing. With her running my plates and taking down my information, I began to explain myself and Whiskerino, to which I got nothing but looks of puzzlement and even more questions...

Another few minutes passed, and we found ourselves laughing at the absurdity of the situation... but I was still asked to pack up my things and go straight home.

Alas, the shot I wanted was not allowed to be taken.

With rebellion, there come consequences, good and bad. Today's were bad.

I'm pretty sure it's not against the law to take a picture, unless you were blocking traffic or something.

Johnny Rebellious says:
@aaronb, you're absolutely right... it's not against the law, but I didn't feel like dealing with the cop anymore, and she was waiting for me to leave until she left. I asked if I could take anymore pictures and she said "I'd rather you not." So I left... everywhere else I went had too much traffic.

Johnny Rebellious lives up to his name. Where would you have been had the flash not fired? I can't find you.

Johnny Rebellious says:
@Kevin!, I'm almost directly to the left to the mound of snow that's next to the signs. See that erect dark mass? That's me.

jclutch says:
stupid flash, you win again. you always do.

At least we got a photo and a story here, I was entertained for a good 45 seconds- and that's about double the usual, so it's a win from a really bizarre angle.

Boo cops.

Brotha, you were profiled! This is a good sign. It means that your Team Hobo aspiration is already coming to serious fruition... enough to rouse the local constabulary.

Fave'd for the hilarious and entertaining story.

Johnny Rebellious says:
@mattyc, that's actually how I started the explanation, but she continued to be puzzled as to why I needed to be in that location by that sign in a dark, almost abandoned parking lot. So I figured, meh, and began to speak of Whiskerino and my rebellion angle...

It still looks good. The story is the real winner here.

Great story and the shot looks good to, even if you can't really see you. Tough break, and better luck next time.

It still works with the STOP! NO LEFT TURNS! angle.

You'll just have to make sure you're doubly visible in tomorrow's picture.

HiImTerry says:
I can't see a erect dark mass. But, the truth of the matter is that I don't really want to be on a site dedicated to beards looking for an erect dark mass. Your lack of visibility not withstanding, this is an excellent shot for the story alone. You're completely entertaining even when I can't see you.

haha... ive come to the same situation a few times. taking photos in the dark around some buildings seems way too suspicious for a cop not to notice. i wish they had something better to do.

We need a stock script that explains Whiskerino satisfactorily. It would come in really handy with co-workers, cops, significant others etc.

way to go the extra mile. the lengths to which people go to get shots is awesome. this is a great example of doing your homework.

in 2007 there were whiskerino business cards available in the bazaar. i was hoping they would show up again this year.

Fofe says:
Tough break! I know how that feels though. A lot of the time I try to just get in and out and not draw too much attention to myself. Just easier than trying to explain an internet-beard-growing-photography-community-building event.

oh man, craziness. that sucks the cop wasn't a cool one - chilling in that doorway back there with a nightstick and some blue and red lights would have been a pretty sweet photo. capturing the event w/ the pic you got is awesome too though! :D

hilarious! great great story, i'd have loved to hear you try to explain whiskerino to her. Whenever I try to explain it to anyone it just sounds ridiculous, like Im totally making it up.

@NedKelly, hahaha I know what you mean! And I'm glad you liked the story
