That's a puppet, isn't it?

Even if you say it isn't I'm going to believe that you're using it like a puppet.

mackle says:
here's the deal. You know my weakness for cats. I think everyone does.

This photo preys on that weakness.. combined with my bromantic love of all things Hale.

Long story short.. Kinged. Faved. And I might even print it out.

Grown Unknown says:
Days like this make me wonder if there's some alternate universe where cats take photos of themselves progressively shaving for four months (although in cat months that's probably like 17 days), and they have team #human day.

Just wondering, you know?
Posted: Feb 11th, 2010 - 11:29pm -
hale. says:
thanks everyone (especially @mackle)

@grownunknown, that's an interesting theory and i say such a universe exists.

this doesn't even look real.
Posted: Feb 12th, 2010 - 12:36am -
Dschonn says:
Only thing, I have absolute confidence that it is real.
Posted: Feb 12th, 2010 - 12:36am -
Dschonn says:
So you're making me rethink all the times I looked at a movie poster or something and thought "That can't be real. What a horrible photoshop job."
Posted: Feb 12th, 2010 - 12:38am -
Dschonn says:
Maybe they weren't as bad as all that after all.

i've been trying to hang out with our cat a little more, he seems pretty scared of me though.

@mackle "bromantic love" is the best thing i've heard this week, follow closely by "single tooth syndrome"

hale. says:
@taylor and @jracecar, the setup here is ridiculously simple. the background is an inexpensive dark blue fleece blanket, and the source light is a desk lamp angled upwards a bit. i don't remember the exact shutter speed, but was probably 1/60 of a second. tripod, self timer and b&w film.

Wait, you're not coming to the throwdown?
Posted: Feb 14th, 2010 - 1:44am -
Dschonn says:
Or is it elldub who isn't coming? I'm confused.
Posted: Feb 14th, 2010 - 1:48am -
jracecar says:
thanks @hale for the setup. that does sound simple, which makes me even more confused by the 2D effect. was this on film, or was it digital? any post-processing? was the effect intentional, or was it a "happy accident" as bob ross would have said? just wondering.
Posted: Feb 15th, 2010 - 2:41pm -
hale. says:
@jracecar, it is on film, and the effect was unintentional. just got lucky i guess. i try to keep any post-processing to the absolute minimum, at most i may adjust the contrast a bit, and re-size. i have a few more shots from the same session, i wonder if they give that same feel.

i like what you've been doing with your calendar this month.
Posted: Feb 16th, 2010 - 1:30pm -
EdwardTeach says:
also I don't know why I haven't told you this yet, (probably because it's irrelevant and not that interesting) but my best friend growing up was named Ryan Hale. We're still good friends.

hale. says:
@edwardteach, you like how i've been doing nothing much at all? in reality, there's no secret posting calendar theme now, but what i should have done, (and this just came to me so thank you,) was plan my calendar to in the end look like a giant game of Tetris. i really, really wish i had thought of that at the beginning.

i thought you had forgotten our childhood. we were best friends!!!!!!

i think there are quite a few ryan hales out there. we're all irrelevant and not that interesting.
