Theme Day: Work!

I have actually posted a couple of pics of me at work so as some of you may know, I am the Head Distiller for a brewpub chain here in the NW called McMenamins. The Distillery's top-selling product, which I spend most of my days producing, is Hogshead Whiskey. We age the whiskey in new, charred American white oak barrels for 5 years.

Here I am in the barrel room doing what I always do on Wednesday mornings, searching for leaky barrels (leaks are pretty common, so much so that there are people that make their living just searching for leaks in barrel warehouses in Kentucky).

Sometimes finding a leak is not such a bad thing. Cheers!

Sir, I fear that if you bring some of your goods to the "brew off" that has been rumored to happen at the throwdown in February, you will be a tough person to beat when it comes to crowd pleasing.

(on a related note, what do you guys do with the barrels when finished? I'd love to get my hands on one for an HUGE batch of imperial bourbon barrel stout I've had my eye on brewing).

Either you made a wrong turn during a spelunking expedition or you grow wine trees for a living.

I love jobs where you are asked about the quality of a product. That implies extensive testing (pronounced "drinking").
