Exposure to the spectrum of radiation produced by match flame seemed to coax the growth along further and faster... Careful, careful.

there's a story in the korean culture about a little matchstick girl. maybe it exists outside that culture, but here it goes anyway in abbreviated form.

matchstick girls were the poorest in the land. they only stayed alive from the pennies they made by selling matches during the winter. one cold winter night, one poor matchstick girl was so cold that she decided to light one of her matches for warmth. she lit it and was warm. it made her feel so good, that she thought she saw her late mommy. so she lit another one, and another. each slowly faded back to blackness, and with its light, the image of her mother. finally, the last match slowly faded. and with it, the life of the matchstick girl.
