Or maybe ironic is the wrong word, I get so mixed up about it after that Alanis Morrisette song and the huge stir it set off about the true meaning of "ironic," and how it was ironic that she got the meaning of the word wrong in her song and all.

@ozzynelson - yes it is an umbrella tattoo. i will try to feature it tomorrow.

my wife sows [sic].

yeah, i think i agree about painted doorknobs.

we didn't paint them.

my wife has an [matching] anchor tattoo.

I don't actually live in MPLS right now. I'm in Johnson City, TN which is cold, but not quite as cold as MPLS. The reason i'm in the MPLS group is because that's where I used to live and that's where I will live again in September. Also, I am more of a northerner than a southerner (no offense to southerners).

Geezer is a good name for a cat I think.

it is a (girls) volleyball shirt, found it in a giveaway box.

@nudevolleyball - good answer .

@jnonfiction - fabric scraps for christmas present for our nieces and nephews. they drew pictures of creatures and my wife is making stuffed animals out of their drawings.

so... close.

if you draw me a creature and email it to me: mattworsfold at gmail dot com, along with your address we'll see what we can do for you.

yeah, your cat is awesome.

my cat's name is Mika.

margot is a great name for a cat.

yeah, Alanis Morrisette ruins everything.

my mom, mother-in-law, and wife are seamstresses, and I learned how to use a machine in 7th grad home-ec.

I need to read faulkner. he's on my list.

yeah, do you follow the newberys pretty closely? who do you think is in the running for winner for this year? were you glad that Gaiman got it last year? I was. I love Gaiman.

yeah, there's some good kid's fiction coming out, especially YA, but you're right, there hasn't really been a westing game in a while. (a few great books I read this year or last were the hunger games, the palace of laughter, absolute brightness, there's more, but i can't think of them. )

What do you think about the diary of a wimpy kid fanaticism?

Posted: Dec 7th, 2009 - 4:32pm -
EdwardTeach says:
@jnonfiction - that's awesome. kids should read/fathers should read to kids.

no black sabbath for me, sorry.

@ozzynelson - i also work in the youth services department of a public library.

your son's blog looks awesome.

@jnonfiction - see my comment above about trying to post a better picture of it (umbrella tattoo tomorrow. )

@ozzynelson - our cat sleeps on the headboard or foot of our bed most nights.

no, the cat was a stray. we notices there were lots of strays around our house so we started putting food out for them. this one kept coming back. so we took her to the vet, got rid of her fleas, and adopted her. she's fantastic.

@jnonfiction - she has free reign. Sometimes she'll jump off my headboard on to my face. that is a rude awakening.

@EdwardTeach I haven't read any Gaiman. Anansi Boys was in my queue for a while but I never got past the first few pages.

I followed the Newberys closer when I was a public librarian. Now I occasionally read teen fiction (I *loved* the M. T. Anderson Octavian Nothing books), but I'm not on top of things.

I think the Diary of a Wimpy Kid deal is: a) speaks to kids in their (more visual) language, and b) includes kid-level-sophistication clever jokes, and c) acknowledges kids' feelings of super-superiority and high-self-image-anxiety at the same time. I haven't really taken a stand on it one way or the other.

I think it's incredibly cool to have identified someone else who has read Yong's book.
