My first (largely unsuccessful, I thought) attempt at using moustache wax to "train" the hairs to the side that now grow straight down over my lip. I HATE THAT; the walrus effect only works for me in respect to my girth, not my moustache. I was singing at church this morning, and wanted to neaten the upper lip a bit and for it not to bug and distract me. This must be an acquired skill, I felt like I used a quarter of the tube and still it didn't work as well as I thought it should have....I kept having to smooth them back into place.

And women think they have issues with THEIR hair.

brandon says:
Which wax are you using? The secret is to warm your beard with a hairdryer first, then apply the wax in as few strokes as possible, and the use the dryer to "set it" quickly. You shouldn't be using very much wax at all, just a dab -- too much will make it sticky and gunky.

Also, your beard is insane.

that's good advice... gnarly beard!

Douggal says:
Thanks, @brandon, that's just the type of advice I needed. "Sticky and gunky" pretty much describes how it feels right now. It's been 15 years since I used a hair dryer, hope I saved my old one...

I have great sympathy for you...and I am in awe of your beard. I hope you are able to tame it at some point...or simply choose to let it run free!

mabe you just need practise with the wax?
or a differentbrand? :)

Douggal says:
@Freshie, I agree. It's hard to tame the gray, and it whorls around every which way. @Ula O cealleigh, I'm using Clubman...anyone have any recommendations? @Jason, appreciate the tips..it did come with a little brush that was helpful.
@SoulGlo1876---Aarrrrr.

I tried to use Clubman's back in Moustache May this year and HATED IT! I couldn't ever get it to work, with our without the brush. I think there has to be something better. There's recipes to make your own that I've seen online, which I'm probably going to try my hand at once my growth gets to that point. You on the other hand are already there...your growth is insane!

Wild beard! Thanks for sharing your struggle. I was about to try to find some wax this week and would have hit the same difficulties.
