Theme Week: Raiden, MAME

Man! - This game makes me want to put an LCD into the MAME cabinet that will rotate 90 degrees.

Raiden is another one of the arcade games that helped raise me as a child. I could make a quarter last for a lifetime, decimating hordes of tanks and aircraft.

You (and P2, if desired) wield a Raiden Supersonic Attack Fighter against alien invaders. Good thing your craft was built using technology obtained from one of their downed vessels or you'd be screwed.

Yeah - it's a vertical scrolling plane game - big whoop! Well, it was one of my first (1943 being the absolute first for me) and it is special. There's no feeling like the one that comes after surviving a one-minute screen completely filled with alien artillery directed right at you.

... especially when you have no clue how you did it.
