zackle says:
Nice one!
Looks like yours is slightly more intact than mine was (a total of 4 pieces here).
Posted: Jan 2nd, 2010 - 5:22pm -
brandon says:
@zackle mine's in two pieces, busted apart at the focusing mechanism.
Posted: Jan 2nd, 2010 - 5:58pm -
Gavin says:
i love it. gives you a double beard. which is more desirable then a double chin.

scanner camera lens? oh brandon... always resourceful. you make everything around you a prop into gold! or i guess really good whiskerino images.

damnweather says:
not surprising. those lenses feel like they're going to fall apart in your hand...
Posted: Jan 2nd, 2010 - 8:12pm -
brandon says:
@damnweather I know. I wonder if the more expensive version is more substantial than the thrifty 50.
Posted: Jan 2nd, 2010 - 8:25pm -
zackle says:
I've got the focus ring, the shell, the outer glass, and the guts/inner lens all as separate pieces. I managed to fit them all back together once, but the mechanisms are busted and the glass is all scratched up and dirty. I was able to snap some cloudy, blurry pics with it, then it all fell apart again. Sadface.

The good news... now that I've got paychecks rolling in again, I shall finally replace it.

I was just wondering that last night.
Posted: Jan 3rd, 2010 - 3:10pm -
brandon says:
@chance Yep. Took a flying leap off a dresser and snapped in half.
Posted: Jan 3rd, 2010 - 3:42pm -
chance says:
I'm guessing it was the Canon f/1.8? The thing is a nice buy for like 85 bucks, but you get what you pay for, what with it being made of what feels like the cheapest plastic ever.
Posted: Jan 3rd, 2010 - 4:15pm -
brandon says:
@chance. You guess right. The thrifty 50 has a lot to love, but build quality isn't one.
