throw it out and buy one of those SWEET new computers called "PC." They're awesome and TOTALLY customizable. You can even ad fans if you've got heat issues... or turn down your processor. Any number of things! Best part, they're cheaper than macs and you can do the work yourself instead of taking it to some smug college kid that thinks he's cool JUST because he works for a megacorporation...

*ahem*

Excuse me.

does she use safari as a browser?

here's my suggestion: install clicktoflash on her macbook air. Airs have a problem with overheating when playing streaming video for some reason (flash video/advertisements/youtube/etc) and this free plugin blocks flash from automatically playing unless you click on it. clame for the link.

@andrew I've noticed video to be the problem. I'll look into this. Thanks! I've also told her to slow down with the farmville on facebook :)

also there's a program called coolbook that a lot of people on message boards seem to recommend to fix the problem. it's $10 but that's a small price to pay over frying a laptop. clame for info
