Day 3: Less is More

one of the best arsenals in every mans wardrobe is the ability to wear something that is classic and never goes out of style, the jeans and t-shirt look. i swore by this look for years and still do. it is a good foundation to any outfit and its super easy to add embellishments, like a scarf or jacket, to make it look even better. here i added a trendy vest as a bit of accessory to the look (really i just wore the vest to hide my gut, another great thing about vests in style). the fit of course, is an important factor here as ill fitting shirts & pants will make you look sloppy, but i feel like the more you look like you just threw it together, the better, probably because you did.

White V-Neck Shirt: $5 from Target
Black Velvet Vest: $7 from Target
Drain Fit Skinny Blue Jeans: $40 from H&M
Levi Strauss Signature Glasses: $150 from Walmart

I know that shirt. Hanes Perfect-T V. I fly that flag often.

The regular Hanes V's are too loose and the V is too low-cut.

The vest. The garment that says "My chest is cold, but my arms aren't."

I'm taking notes. I really am. No Joke. I have no sense of style.

Ace says:
@andrew you are correct there sir and i agree with you on all of those points. i prefer the v-neck only to be a different cut than the crew neck, not something that plunges my neckline to my chest. that should be reserved for women only.

you know what the best embellishment to jeans and a t-shirt is?

Posted: Jan 13th, 2010 - 1:26pm -
Andrew says:
I also think it's somewhat of a shame that the cut is so severely different. 2 well-fitting v-necks for $10 over 5 ill-fitting ones seems a bit steep.

But I'm not trying to flash cleave. I'll pay the $10.

Dschonn says:
I've worn a vest in my time. I don't like them over t-shirts though. They are the piece missing from most suits, and as such really ought to be worn over a shirt with buttons. And I prefer not to show shirt between vest and trousers, unless I've unbuttoned the bottom few buttons on purpose for comfort and that casual look. This is my main problem with the low-rise pants.

Of course, I am trying to fight the inexorable tide of fashion. I am trying to wear dressier clothes in ever more casual contexts. I am trying to achieve perfection of fit. This is not the wave of the future. The future will probably see casual clothing in more formal situations and clothes that fit "everybody", which means in fact that they fit nobody. I am fighting a losing battle.
