Whiskerino 2009

No trimming! No shaping! Embrace the Whiskerino!

Goodbye Whiskerino, I'll miss you all.

I've just accepted three roles in a production of William Shakespeare's /A Comedy of Errors/, to be performed the first three weekends in May--the reason the director asked me to play three parts is because he's excited about using wax to reshape my moustache in a different way for each part. The whole play is about confusion of identities and pairs of identical twins being confused with each other, so my parts will just be one more iteration of that dynamic. I mention it here mainly as a way of saying that this is not goodbye, merely so long. I will see y'all in May for the Running of the Moustaches.

Big thanks to Mackle for putting this whole biannual exercise in silliness together. It's a really magical thing that all of us guys could come together in his world and make something so special. It has meant a great deal to me these last five and a half years.

Your words at the Pugh mini-meetup really touched me. I had never thought of Whiskerino as a kind of safe haven for intelligent / creative dudes. It was the first time I considered the notion that Whiskerino meant something to people that they may have had difficulty finding in real life... I always assumed it was just an extension of something they may have already had. You really got at me with that. It makes shutting the lights off around here even harder.

That being said, you have a friend in Nashville now.. anytime you make your way up here, I would love to hang out. And hopefully the Atlanta contingent that you met along the way has helped improve your available social circle as well.

Congrats on the part in the play.. I look forward to seeing the results during May!

"I had never thought of Whiskerino as a kind of safe haven for intelligent / creative dudes. It was the first time I considered the notion that Whiskerino meant something to people that they may have had difficulty finding in real life."

which i'm assuming is your sentement... that is so true... it has been that...though we do all have some of it in real life too...but it's a certain kind of person that would take part in this crazy thing.

Clame for the website for my theater group, @Finn MacCool and any other locals. I'm sure more information will be posted there over the coming month or two. The play will run the first three weekends in May, on Friday & Saturday evenings at around 8:00pm & on Sunday May 16th at 4:00pm, at Barrington Hall in the Roswell Square. It's free! It's outdoors & family friendly. Bring a blanket or folding chairs and make a picnic out of it.

I haven't managed to comment on as many photos as I'd like today, to say so long to everyone. But it's been a long weekend with my kids and it's time now for me to crash. I'm sorry for anyone I didn't get to leave a comment for. It's been an honor and a privilege to grow and show with each and every one of you.

I was in that play in collage...it was fun but i liked midsummer nights dream better...but maybe that was because i had a bigger part and i like the director...oh well. What parts are you Playing?

JamesC says:
I totally hope you get to play the one guy who wears an ass's head. Because that would totally match your personality. Was his name Puck or something? Anyway, good luck with all that acting stuff. I just hope they don't ask you to "act like a jerk" because you would fail miserably.
I'm proud to have met you and call you my friend. Whenever you want to get away from the madness there, come visit me in Idaho. I'll take you up into the mountains and you'll forget all you used to know.
Stay cool brother.

I'd like to thank you for our conversations at the Throwdown. It was great to have that kind of discussion in a weekend full of two-minute exchanges. I never knew how many of my favorite Whiskeroonies are in Atlanta until the end here, but now that I know I will certainly try hard to go there and hang out with all of you sometime. I feel like I have made lifelong friends this time around, and I would like to visit them. So you're definitely on my call list for when I get to your town. I look forward to more talk of things linguistic and societal. And I'll see you in May.
