But what i really like about you is that you are humble about things and even though you know you built the place you really believe (b/c its true) that the users make the site what it is. Well I'm just here to tell you that you ARE one of those user's and a very good one at that. Heck of a commenter you are...and you read the shit out of all the comments on every image you comment on (or at least that's what it seems).. I sort of skim for the important stuff unless it's a really funny image. Oh.. and lastly more than anything even though we've known each other via internets for a few years now and exchanged occasional emails about movies or whatnot i really feel like we became friends moreso through this go round on whiskerino...and I'm kind of glad this is the last whiskerino b/c now i don't really ever have to shave my moustache....but anyway.. thank you for letting us play in your house for a while. @Mackle, I'm glad to count you among my friends. Thanks for the 3 I was able to participate, I've made a lot of friends through this site and through you. I can honestly say that because of the Spongebath Records message board, I have become good friends with you, then everyone I know in or from Nashville (4 of which live in Austin with me, and I've met tons of people through them. Then there's the whole Paige crew. Seriously, here in Austin, I think I can count on two hands the number of friends that I have that I didn't meet because of you, or because of someone I met through you. You're the tops!

I've never before seen such a successful online community either. The branches made to the current members of the site have been very satisfying to discover. It sure says something about you and the folks you keep close.

I have learned a lot from you and from the whiskerino dudes. I have a tendency to let work bog me down and get me down. Having this place around to remind me not to just poke my head up and look around but to get out and talk and make things has made a huge impact on me. I never understood all those secret societies and men's clubs and so forth. Now I do. As silly as it is that's what you've made, but with creativity and shared creations at the heart of it. So perfect. The heart of this thing just keeps beating stronger and stronger every time you see someone just raise the bar like 5 levels or comment on every person's shot even with HUNDREDS of people on here.

I can't imagine how good you feel about all of it except that I feel extremely great right now and lucky to have been brought into this by @poe and accepted and challenged by you and the rest of the incredible men on here. (horrible run-on) We were boys when it started and having watched everyone grow together has been super special. With no tattoos on my body at all I am working on one now for my participation. Not because that's been a trend here, although I am floored by the skullbeards and so forth. Moreso because I always wanted a brother and now I feel that I have hundreds of them.

I definitely take your challenge to heart. Thinking about traveling the world in order to meet as many of the folks on here as possible sounds like a great life story. The man who used to sell us our Christmas trees had a huge map on his wall of all of the places he and his wife had traveled. I'd love to have a map with whiskerino logos pinned to all the locations of beardos I've been.

Well, that's all for now. I too was skeptical about such a huge community this time, but DAMN. Whiskerino 2009 was incredible. Thanks. Talk to you again soon.

Also, in terms of how I found this thing:

I had been reading Yewknee for a few years after finding it in 2002 from the 615 link list. When the 'Beard Contest' was launched - I thought it was super weird / strangely alluring. I spent the next few weeks lurking around the site - just watching.

I finally decided I needed to join. I talked @cdub, who worked next to where I lived, into joining me and we where off. We figured if we where going to start late (with way less beard than everyone else) we really needed to work that much harder to prove ourselves and go all out.

Needless to say, the beard contest changed how I look at the world and the rest is beard history.

This isn't just a simple web community of guys and girls who like beards. This is a monumental human achievement: getting together a group of people separated by interests, cultures, borders, and tens, hundreds, and thousands of miles of land and sea. It's the human experience, and it's amazing in a way that is unquantifiable.

I will hope against hope that this isn't really the Final Chapter, and that it is actually only the First Hiatus for a thing that will continue on to bring a few hundred people scattered across the Earth together for four months of bonding and the forming of friendships.

I've been writing comments pretty much non-stop since 5:00pm... trying to say goodbye to this group of people, that I met on the INTERNET? You elude to it in your caption, that not a lot of other web sites accomplish this kind of 'bonding'. I would say the remainder of meaningful interactions I've had with strangers on the web before this is exactly zero. I think there will someday be books written about what you've accomplished here. I saw the failed film that was made this morning for the first time, and I think they may have just missed the story--not that there wasn't a story. In an era where 'social media' is the hottest topic at every business conference in the land, you have done the un-thinkable.. created not a social networking site for friends to stay in touch; not a social networking site for like minded people to collaborate; but a social networking site for strangers--who only have in common the fact that they can grow Facial Hair, to become veritable blood brothers. That.. is totally amazing, and I am sooo happy an proud to have been part of it.

We'll have plenty of time to chat more, I have to hit 'Say it' because i might turn into a pumpkin. Thank you for everything. Thank you for the kind words on my page today. and thanks for, just being alive! The world is a more beautiful place because of it, there is no doubt.
