There is a big sign on the side of the interstate near Greensboro. It has the word "BEARD" written on it in huge text. Here is me next to the big sign. It just happens this company is also the reason I am in Greensboro. I have worked for the BEARD family for almost 6 years now exporting lumber to counties all over the world. It's a great industry, a great place to live, a wonderful company to work for, and exactly the kind of job I want. And now, I can even appreciate the name of the company I work for. I am so lucky. I will be shaving on March 1, but I'll be a little sad while doing it. Today was the first day this beard has gotten in the way of my job a little bit. I'm planning a business trip to Vietnam and China in March and have to apply for my visas TODAY. I will be clean shaven by the time I go on the trip and I am out of passport photos (which you have to include in your visa application). CRAP. I don't think I can get through Chinese immigration if I get new photos with a bigass beard, and I don't want to travel WITH the beard, so I've spent way too much time today PHOTOSHOPPING out a background of an old photo. (actually using GIMP). I suck at photoshop, but I'm going to give this one a shot and hope I don't end up an international prisoner for doctoring my passport photo. My family had season passes to the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. My parents tell me that there was only one day during the summer it was open that I did not go. I was 3 years old and remember almost nothing. In high school, I started collecting memorabilia from that World's Fair and as of 2002 I have reason to believe that my collection was the largest private collection in existence (although I acknowledge that since then, I have probably fallen behind some of the fanatics who have gotten on board because of the 25th Anniversary). I also went through a stage with an unhealthy fascination for accordion music, including Bavarian folk music. Later, as you may already know, beer became a big part of my life. The 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville had a beer hall sponsored by Stroh's Brewery. (of course, I have all the memorabilia from the Strohaus including a signed album by the house band). Stroh's beer is long gone, but I have the reproduction shirt. So there's this beer I brew that involves 8 jalapeños soaked in high quality tequila for about 3 weeks. I then blend the tequila with a light gold ale. The final product ends up with an aroma like a freshly cut jalapeño, only a hint of spiciness, and a surprisingly enjoyable beer. Today is the day to dump the tequila in the ale for this batch. I'd be lying if I said I didn't usually sample the tequila before it goes in. I met a nice group of guys in Greensboro who meet once a month and discuss their beards over beer. The Beard & Moustache Club of North Carolina. They were unaware of WHISKERINO, and were a little jealous I think. I joined and bought a T-Shirt.
